The Gamma Mu Chapter of
Delta Tau Delta is
always seeking men who
are capable of
fulfilling the high
standards that the
chapter sets for itself.
This is accomplished
through recruitment,
which is run through the
chapter informally 365
days a year.
If you are considering
joining a fraternity,
please look at the
information provided
under the "Fraternity
FAQ" link above. If what
you read there and
elsewhere throughout our
site appeals to you,
then you have come to
the right place.
Make no mistakes about
the obligation that this
fraternity is. This is
most definitely not a
typical college
fraternity, but one that
a man joins for life.
The principles and
values that you will
learn as a Delt are ones
that you will apply to
your life far beyond
your college years. It
is our hope that every
member who leaves this
chapter will remain
involved in the
activities of the
fraternity until they
join the Chapter
Eternal. If a man refers
to his house as a
"college" fraternity,
then it was not worth
his time to join at all.
We take great pride in
the fact that our alumni
come back for decades to
support the goals that
we all share as Delts.
This fraternity was
founded on a set of
values. It was not
founded for the sole
purpose of brotherhood,
or friendship, but as an
organization intensely
driven on the upholding
of the values which is
was founded to protect.
The brotherhood we share
does not come from the
fact that we share a
shelter, or that we
spend much of our time
together, or that we
party together; these
are things anyone can
do. If brotherhood stems
from mere companionship,
then joining a
fraternity is no
different than living in
the dormitory. Our
brotherhood comes from
the desires we all share
to see the values that
we champion be held in
the highest regard among
our members. The goals
and aspirations that we
share are what unite us
and will keep us united
for the years to come.
The values that you
learn in Delta Tau Delta
are not those of a
specific religious
group, or those that
only apply to people of
one background. We are
not a fraternity for
people only interested
in a certain major. We
do not recruit members
based on any
superficiality or
characteristic. Our
criteria is that each
brother of the
fraternity will uphold
our mission and values,
and truly live a life of
excellence. If a
fraternity cannot, or
will not bond men
together of different
backgrounds and beliefs,
then it is sorely
lacking.
This fraternity does not
haze. No fraternity will
ever admit that they do,
so the previous
statement will probably
hold little weight with
any reader who has
researched fraternities
in general. What we can
offer, however, are
concrete results. In
this past September, we
pledged 21 men to the
fraternity. By June of
this year, all 21 were
made active members. We
do not practice or
condone hazing in any
way, and the fact that
all of our pledges
became active members
shows that. Similarly,
if you become a member
of this fraternity you
will be held to that
exact point. Hazing will
never be practiced at
this chapter by any
member, at any time.
All fraternities will
offer brotherhood,
socials, academic
support, and
"networking." However,
so do the dorms. What
differentiates
fraternities from each
other, and from the
outside world is the
letters that make up
their name. Each
fraternity was founded
for a specific reason,
one which should set its
members apart from the
outside world. We take
great pride in the fact
we are Delts. We take
great pride in our
values. We take the
ideals that our
fraternity represents,
and we try our best to
have them be an abiding
influence in our lives.
Above all, we are Delts.
Delta Tau Delta is a
fraternity with a strong
history and a rich
future. If you like the
idea of a fraternity
that will be a guiding
force in your life years
after you leave the
grounds of this
university, after you
stop paying dues and
coming to meetings,
after you have found
work and settled down,
and after your children
have come and gone
through college, then we
encourage you to pledge
this fraternity. If you
think that you can
aspire to be more than a
typical fraternity man,
that you can make a
difference and accept
the challenge which has
now been presented to
you, then we invite you
to pledge. It is a
decision you will not
regret.

RECRUITMENT vs. RUSH:
Our Procedures
After many years (over
90 years that Delta Tau
Delta has been on the UW
campus) and a variety of
different recruitment
methods, we have decided
as a fraternity that
rush does not work,
especially on this
campus, especially for
our fraternity based on
the type of men we wish
to recruit. We recruit
men based on their
potential to live up to
the values which we
uphold as a chapter.
However, most men who
actively seek out
fraternities on this
campus know the
fraternity stereotypes,
and seek such. We do not
look at or pledge men
interested in this by
any means, and as such
running "rush" at the
same time as the
chapters is not
particularly productive
for us. In response, we
are done with fraternity
rush. We have oficially
moved to 365 day
recruitment procedure.
We
do hold events during
formal rush, as there is
not formal "rush" at the
University of
Washington, but we
consider these the
culmination of a man's
recruitment, and not the
only means to view
candidates.
Additionally, we feel
that only one or two
visits to Delt shelter
or other recruitment
events, is not nearly
enough for either our
chapter or a prospect to
make a choice which will
affect the rest of his
life and our
brotherhood. We strongly
encourage anyone
considering Delts to
contact us
so that we can start the
process of learning
which will lead to their
decision about the
chapter.
