Dear prospective new
member,
Congratulations on your
acceptance to the Univ.
of Washington. Your
twelve years of previous
schooling has proved to
prepare you well for the
task ahead of you. Your
committment to the
University of Washington
will prove to be one of
the biggest steps of
your life. That of
having moved out on your
own and attending our
prestigious university.
In fact, the University
of Washington is fast
becoming one of the
premier higher learning
institutions in this
country. Along with the
choice of this school
comes the choice of
where you are going to
live. You could live in
a dormitory or at home,
for that matter,
however, the only true
way to enhance both your
academic and social
skills would be to live
in one of the many
fraternities at the
University of
Washington.
There are many rumors
and false stereotypes of
fraternity life in the
media today. There is
only so much that I can
say here to dispel much
of the negative image
put upon all Greeks by
the media. The only real
solution is for you to
call, email, or stop by
to check out fraternity
life at Delta Tau Delta
for yourself. You can,
as all Delts have, make
friendships that will
last a lifetime and
truly have the ultimate
college experience with
your fellow fraternity
brothers.
If academics is an issue
for you, we are here to
help. The fact of the
matter is, that Greeks
are 74% percent more
likely than non-Greeks
to stay in school and
graduate within 4-5
years. On an
international level,
United States and
Canada, Delta Tau Delta
International
Fraternity's 2.74
cumalative undergraduate
GPA is a full .2 higher
than any other
fraternity in the Greek
world. Although this may
not seem like much
against your high school
GPA it is amazing when
compared against the
sheer numbers of
fraternity and sorority
members across the
country and we likewise
take pride in this
national accomplishment.
Another important title
held by Greeks is that
over 84% of "America's
Who's Who." went Greek
while in college.
As for the Univ. of
Washington Delts, we
help our new members
excel in academics by
providing over 15 hours
a week of supervised
study tables. These
study tables are always
held away from the house
as we utilize the
classrooms and libraries
on the University of
Washington campus.
Another advantage of
living at a fraternity
at the UW is that, as a
freshman a sophomore,
you must complete the
University's general
academic/graduation
requirements and you
will have help doing so.
During these years you
will have many large
classes of 500 students
or more and probably the
same amount of problems
getting them, yet you
will have many of these
classes with your Delt
brothers and the help
and advice of those who
have taken the same
classes before you. Not
only will you have the
years of previous
experience at your
disposal, you will have
our extensive study room
and study files as well.
Socially, Delta Tau
Delta Fraternity has it
all, from cruises and
dances to parties and
various other activities
with our sorority
neighbors. Another of
our advantages over
dormitory life is that,
as Greeks, we have more
influence and control of
our own Greek events
than non-Greek parties,
etc. We are here as your
brothers and will look
out for you, which you
won't find if your
living in dormitories.
And for all the high
priced advertising and
glossy paper the Univ.
of Washington spends on
dormitory life, the fact
of the matter is there
have been several
questionable incidents
occurring in the UW
dormitories in the last
few years. Most
recently, the University
has instituted three
to a room freshman
Dormitories which is
considerably higher than
almost all the
fraternities in the UW
Greek System.
All these things aside,
the point that we as
Greeks are trying to
make, is that your
choice to join us over
living in the
dormitories could be one
of the most fulfilling
in your life. Don't let
your opinion or that of
your parents be skewed
by distorted media
sensationalism. And most
of all, going "Greek"
will be plain fun. It is
an honor and a privilege
to be a Greek student at
the Univ. of Washington,
home to one of the
largest Greek Systems in
both the U.S. and
Canada.
Now that you have had a
quick preview of Delta
Tau Delta Fraternity,
your next step would be
to call or e-mail our
recruitment chairmen.
The recruitment chairmen
can be reached by
telephone at (206)
525-5067 or (206)
526-7220. We will be
happy to answer any
questions for you. If
your parents have
questions as well, let
them know that, we will
be happy to answer any
questions they may have
as well.
I
hope this has short
letter has spoken well
of going "Greek" and
more importantly of
becoming a Delt. Please
do not hesitate to call
or
e-mail us
so that you can come by
and see what Delta Tau
Delta is all about. You
won't be disappointed.
Fraternally,
Marco Boccato
